چکیده

This paper provides computationally tractable conditions to determine whether a composi te splme curve or patch selfintersects, according to a definition that includes the important limiting cases of cusps, singularities, and tangential intersections of adjacent components . These results follow upon our exposit ion of necessary and sufficient conditions to preclude such selfintersections. The paper includes a numerical example illustrating the results, and discusses an important application, namely, guaranteeing that a finite curvilinear simplicial complex in R ~. made up of properly-joined parantetric patches, will retain its original topological form when its control points are perturbed. ~:; 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.

Distinguishing Embedded Curves in Rational Complex Surfaces

We construct many pairs of smoothly embedded complex curves with the same genus and self-intersection number in the rational complex surfaces CP 2#nCP 2 with the property that no self-diffeomorphism of CP 2#nCP 2 sends one to the other. In particular, as a special case we answer a question originally posed by R. Gompf (1995) concerning genus two curves of selfintersection number 0 in CP 2#13CP .

Stability Analysis of Laminated Cylindrical Shells under Combined Axial Compression and Non-Uniform External Pressure

This study investigates geometrical non-linear analysis of composite circular cylindrical shells under external pressure over part of their surfaces and also shells subjected to combined axial compression and triangular external pressure. Donnell non-linear shell theory along with first order shear deformation theory (FOSD) are adopted in the analysis. In the case of combined axial compression ...

Topology of singular curves and surfaces, applications to visualization and robotics

The description of singular varieties (self-intersecting curves or surfaces for example) arises in a wide range of applications, from scientific visualization to the design of robotic mechanisms. Currently, most software provide either (a) numerical approximations without topological guarantee; or (b) rely on symbolic computer algebra methods to handle singular varieties but suffer from efficie...

Conditions for use of a non-selfintersection conjecture

Volino and Thalmann have published a conjecture proposing sufficient conditions for non-selfintersection of surfaces. Such conditions may be used in solid modeling, computer graphics, and other application areas, as a basis for collision-detection algorithms. In this paper we clarify certain of the hypotheses of the proposed theorem, and give a proof. A brief summary of possible pitfalls relate...

TENSION QUARTIC TRIGONOMETRIC BÉZIER CURVES PRESERVING INTERPOLATION CURVES SHAPE

In this paper simple quartic trigonometric polynomial blending functions, with a tensionparameter, are presented. These type of functions are useful for constructing trigonometricB´ezier curves and surfaces, they can be applied to construct continuous shape preservinginterpolation spline curves with shape parameters. To better visualize objects and graphics atension parameter is included. In th...
